Pope is not in the true church.

We'll see how many people I offend with this one....

Hopefully the comments that the pope made recently will cause those who are trying for Ecumenism to rethink. It probably won't, because it doesn't take too much looking into the situation to realize that Roman Catholicism is not biblical anyway. There are many other unbiblical things that the so called church has embraced over the years, why would it change? Now don't get me wrong I don't HATE catholics, just don't agree with the "church" many reasons why... Mary didn't remain a perpetual virgin, Mary is not the "Mother of God" just a sinner chosen to be a vessel to carry to term a baby who was and is both God and Man. She proclaimed herself as a sinner and that God was her savior. Praying to the dead and idolatry don't help the situation and the whole idea of priests the way they see it is misguided, too much in that statement to elaborate at this time... Jesus is my Prophet, Priest & King! Purgatory????? That can't be found in the Bible, oh of course Church Tradition is just as important as scripture....really? Where can that be found. Peter the fist pope? no, oh my belief comes directly from the apostles, their writing are in the bible and do not support most of the Roman Catholic teachings. By the way this post is not a knee jerk reaction to the comments the pope made, saying that The Roman Catholic church is the only true church.. Reading what he said did remind me of my stance on things and therefore did serve as a springboard for me writing this. He's right in one thing, there is Only one true path of salvation, It is NOT through works based practices, It is by the Grace of God through Jesus Christ. There are many false Christs, only the Bible can show you the real one, no other source can.

Regardless of our disagreements sociopolitically, we are very much unified on this issue.

Here is an article about what the Pope said:
"You are not real churches, Pope says to Protestants"

And further to what you said in your blog, the Catholic Canon essentially says that Catholic tradition is not only on par with Scripture's authority, but also when different, Catholic tradition supersedes Scripture. That right there should key people into what the Catholic church doesn't believe.

I also think that it is humorous that the Catholics believe that Peter was the first Pope. Apparently they don't recognize that it was Paul that helped establish Christianity in Rome, not Peter. They state in Catholic tradition that if you don't believe that Peter is the foundation of the church as it's cornerstone...regardless of the fact that Corinthians states that there is only one foundation, which is Christ. Not to mention that in church father's writing in the Christian church, they didn't recognize Peter as any higher position than any of the other church fathers.

Also there is this in Luke 22:24-27
"A dispute also arose among them as to which of them was considered to be greatest. Jesus said to them, 'The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them; and those who exercise authority over them call themselves Benefactors. But you are not to be like that. Instead, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.'"

Clearly Christ himself was settling the dispute as to who was going to be the chief of the church.

Likely we could go on for pages of text talking about all the Catholic traditions that are not contained in the Hebrew or Christian Scriptures. Like praying for the dead (advocated in Maccabees) where they use 2 Timothy 1 to advocate it in the Christian Scriptures, claiming that the supposedly dead person being prayed for was Onesiphorus. Though there is no historical evidence that such a claim is accurate. It is merely an assumption starting from the idea that they should pray for the dead.

Anyway...that goes on and on. And it amazes me how much control the Catholic tradition imposes on people and holds salvation over their head like a prize carrot to be earned in service to the Catholic tradition. Wicked. I have friends that came out of the Catholic tradition that still feel its influence and pressure to submit themselves to their teachings, instead of to Christian teachings.

I'm not an advocate of disunity in the 'christian' church in general by any means. But the recent ecumenism is somewhat disturbing, in that people are so willing to overlook pretty heinous anti-Scriptural teachings to be unified. I will live at peace with all people, but that doesn't mean that I need to tolerate or accept non-Biblical teachings or sacrifice truth to live at peace with people, either inside or outside the church.

Perhaps it is time for the Catholic Church to understand that it is merely 'Catholic' and not Christian.
